Date Night on a Budget

money with pig

Do your date nights go a little something like this….

Spouse1: What do you want to do tonight?

Spouse2: I don’t know whatcha wanna do?

Spouse1: Well, where do you want to go?

Spouse 2: I don’t know, doesn’t matter…any new movies come out. What about a bar for drinks and pool?

Spouse1: (shrugs shoulders) We did that last weekend…it’s just the same old same. Let’s just order pizza.

Spouse2: Pizza Hut or Dominos?

If this sounds like your typical date nights. Then this post just might help spice up your date nights.

A common reason why couples’ don’t  schedule date nights’ is because they are not sure as what to do without spending a ton of money. Well, we have the perfect solution for you..

We are frequent users of two great resources that have helped us discover the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. We’ve experienced some awesome dates nights while still managing to stay within a budget.

Cookie and Crumb would like to introduce you to (drum roll please)…….

*Groupon and Living Social*

We absolutely LOVE these two sites for a few reasons:

1) They always have a good price on food, activities, and getaways.

2) You can discover new places to try that are within your local area.

3) They make it easy to plan a getaway or book an adventure trip.

4) The deals are so reasonable that it’s easy to try new things without spending a lot of money.

When we  first moved to Dallas in 2009, Groupon and Living Social were our life lines to exploring the DFW area. We knew nothing about Dallas…until we found these two hidden gems! Since, we have tried several amazing restaurants, booked a trip to the cabins, kayaking, sporting events, paint nights and etc.

Both Groupon and Livingsocial are easy to use. When using any smartphone you just download the apps to your phone or you can go to the actual website.  Once you find a deal you want you just purchase it. You can show your smartphone to the merchant to redeem your voucher or you can print the voucher and give it to them and boom date night on a budget!!

LivingSocial and Groupon feature daily deals on things to do locally, travel adventures, and fabulous products, all while giving you fantastic deals and discounts. They have inspired us to explore the great city of Dallas and many surrounding cities.

These sites maybe new to some and old to others. But one thing we know for sure is it has helps us have some amazing date nights together. Splish – Splash: Washing your fruits & veggies

IMG_8832

Summertime isn’t possible without your favorite fruits. Make this summer a fresh one by following a few simple steps to better fruit and vegetables.

You always want to make sure you wash your fruits and vegetables before eating. It is just as important as washing your hands. You want to get the most out of your fruits and vegetables without the bacteria and pesticides. When omitting this simple and easy step you could put anyone that eats the fruit and vegetable at risk of an illness. Your local supermarket may rinse the produce off or have ready to eat fruits pre-packaged. However, you should still wash all of your fruits and vegetables. Before you eat that non-washed produce just take a second to think of all of the people who have handled it before you purchased it . All of their hands are adding more bacteria and germs to your produce. Your probably saying…’Eeww that’s GROSS!’ Yep, it is.

Although, we can not prevent others from touching our produce (only in a perfect world!)  there are solutions to help elevate the risk of becoming ill as a result. Instead of spending a ton of money on the produce wash that you can buy from your grocery store. You can use the simple steps below that will put you well on your way to gaining all the vitamins and minerals that come along with clean fresh fruit.

DIY Fruit & Vegetable Wash

Things you will need:

1 cup of White Distilled Vinegar

1 spray bottle (large enough to hold 4 cups of liquid)

A large bowl

Instructions:

Pour 1 cup of white distilled vinegar into the spray bottle. Add 3 cups of water and shake well to mix ingredients. Spray all smooth skinned fruits & veggies (ex. apples, tomatoes, etc.) with solution from the bottle to cover the entire surface of the fruit or vegetable (4-6 sprays). Using your hand to rub the solution over the skin of the produce. Rinse produce with cold water, while rubbing your hand over the skin to remove any vinegar. Pat dry with a clean dry towel before eating or slicing.

For leafy vegetables such as lettuce and spinach. Pour 1 cup of white distilled vinegar in a bowl, add 3 cups of water. Dip the produce into the solution about 3-5 times. Remove, rinse with cold water, and pat dry with a clean towel before serving.

All other green vegetables such as cauliflower and broccoli can be washed and clean with the same method. Instead of dipping the vegetables you would soak them for 2 minutes before rinsing with cold water and patting dry before serving.

Warning: It is best to wash your fruit and vegetables before you consume them. Most fruits and vegetables will spoil faster once pesticides have been removed.

Refueling your happiness

When we started to write this blog post today we were so excited because  it came from a random but interesting conversation that we struck up. And of course since we love you all so much we had to come on here and share it. So here is the history behind the story…

The other morning Lucas and I were in our normal routine, we open our eyes and began giving thanks to God for allowing us to be alive in another day. We say our individual prayers and then… its game time (see ya’ll were thinking nasty!) We both start cracking jokes on one another or playing pranks, now the tricky part is that whoever is the quickest on their feet is usually the one who has the upper hand! So I have to be super quick!

Our normal routine led me to ask Luke do these actions make her happy? I absolutely love to see her smile and it is very important that I always know the things that help me see that through daily. She answered yes, and (of course) doubled backed and asked me the same question. Do these actions make me happy? Of course I said, Heck yeah! And I elaborated…

Being able to wake up and live with someone that has an amazing sense of humor has certainly helped smooth out the rough patches. It makes the hard days seem simple and the times that we don’t even feel like smiling or laughing we both help each other to smile and see the lighter side of the situation despite it all.

Being able to be yourself in a relationship is important but being able to laugh and have healthy humor in your relationship is powerful.  Research from www.helpguide.org even proves the importance of laughter.

Laughter is good for your health

▪          Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.

▪          Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.

▪          Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.

▪                Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

So what does all of this have to do with refueling your happiness? Well that’s just it, laughing! Make sure that you do not take for granted the benefits of laughing with your partner Be yourself in your relationship, let your silly and funny side free and enjoy the benefits of it. It is easy for pride and ego to slip its way into your relationship and start preventing you from being yourself around your partner. Having fun with one another and making each other laugh should not be judged.

So if you are feeling low on your happiness in your relationship today or any day. Make sure you are enjoying the simple things in life and refuel yourselves by opening up a good ole’ can of laughter!

We love when you to talk to us, so comment below and tell us about some of the fun things you and your partner do to refuel your happiness?

Happy Laughing,

Learning to GROW together.

Most of us understand that at some point in your life you have that moment of complete silence where you realize…its time to grow up. Although most of the time we are isolated in our rooms and the realization is a product of our self-reflection. So what happens when you are not alone, your in a relationship?

Today we are going to talk about just that, learning to grow together. It can become a challenge for some going from being alone and independent to being in a relationship and having to go through personal changes with another person. It’s important to accept the fact that although we reach many milestones in life one thing that is forever accruing is…change. We are always changing in our personalities, interest, appearance, and outlook on life.

We will break this topic down in 3 separate points- reflection, communication, and understanding. The points will be the staple example of the most important skills you should develop in your relationship in order to ease the growing pains.

1)   Reflection

It is important to take time to self- reflect this still holds true in a relationship. The only difference is that you are not just reflecting on one person but both people, you’re reflecting together. Reflecting with each other is a skill that will help your relationship grow. When you all take the time to reflect some good questions to ask yourself are.

-     How do we want to grow together?

-       What do we need change (correct or develop) about ourselves in order to grow together?

-       What do we need to do to grow together?

By asking these questions during reflection will allow each person to open their minds and really think about how they can grow together.

2)   Communication

No one likes secrets. No one. Communication is the most important trait to have in any relationship, family, work, friends…and partnerships. When you reflect with each other you must tell your partner what it is that you want to change within yourself and in the relationship. Don’t hold any thoughts or ideas away from your partner. Be open and honest and let them know. Taking the time to take with each other will give each of you the opportunity to let it out on the table. Both people can go to the next step of making the necessary changes and feeling comfortable while doing it.

3)   Understanding

You want your partner to know what is going on so they may have the understanding of any changes in moods or attitudes. Lets keep it real… we are all good people but not everyone is comfortable with change. Our attitudes can change from good to bad in a split second if we have a lot on our minds and are under the heavy thoughts of making changes. So it is important to take heed to what your partner says in communicating with you and being mindful of it when you notice a change in their mood. Be nurturing and understanding not harsh and judgmental. Always remind yourself that, this is your partner and with change comes a few challenges but in the end the growth will be beneficial for the both of you.

Growth is all around us we see it in the simplest things. It is very easy to forget that no matter what our number age is we are never too old to grow and to learn something new with our partners. Learning to grow alone is one task but when you take the consideration of growing with another person, just how great your relationship can become is endless.

We hope that this topic has reached and helped you all today.

We want to hear from you, what are some traits that you have found to be very helpful when learning how to grow with your partner? Which skills worked and which skills were a bad idea?

Let us know by commenting below. Make sure you share this blog with anyone that you feel the need to.

Until next time, live alive and LOVE one another.
